Although One Of Canada'S Outstanding Juniors In 1969 He Was Not Drafted Until Late In The 2nd Round Because They Worried That He Was Diabetic. He Had A Brilliant 15 Year Career In The Nhl Highlighted By The Flyers' Capture Of The Stanley Cup In 1973- 1974 And 1974 - 1975 And His Two Time Selection As First All Star Centre In 1974 - 1975 And In 1975 - 1976; And His 3 Captures Of The Hart Trophy As The League'S Most Valuable Player In 1972-1973, 1974 - 1975, And 1975 - 1976. He Left As The Team'S All-Time Leading Scorer With 358 Goals And 852 Assists For 1,210 Points. He Retired As A Player On May 15,1984, And Was Appointed Vice-President And General Manager Of Philadelphia Flyers. He Was The First Canadian Ever To Be Awarded The Association'S Award Which Recognizes People Who Actively Encourage Young People'S Participation In Sports. In 1964 The City Of Winnipeg Awarded Him The City Of Winnipeg Community Service Award. He Was Recognized By The City Again In 1972. A Park Located On The North Side Of The Red River Between The Louise Bridge And The Disraeli Freeway Was Named Ernie O'Dowda Park. He Was An Avid Curler And Was Made An Honorary Life Member Of The Elmwood Curling Club. He Also Operated Amateur Boxing And Wrestling Cards At Elmwood'S Kelvin Community Centre. In 1926, He Joined Portland And Scored 30 Goals During The 30 Game Season. Chicago Purchased Him And In The Ninth Game Of His Second Season He Suffered A Fractured Skull To End His Playing Career. He Coached Chicago For One And A Half Years, Then In 1931 He Joined Toronto In 1931, Winning The Stanley Cup. He Stayed With The Leafs Until 1940, Then Joined The Montreal Canadiens Where He Coached Until 1955, Winning Three Stanley Cups. He Closed His Coaching Career At Chicago The Nest Year. He Was Voted The Most Valuable Player To His Team In 1942 -1943. He Was Also One Of The Original Members Voted Into The Detroit Hockey Hall Of Fame. In The 1976 Olympics He Placed 18th Out Of 121 Competitors Ranking Above His Canadian Team Members. For Gymnastic Excellence He Was Awarded By Winnipeg The Fig Pin, A Symbol For Gymnasts Who Achieve 9.0 Or Better In Each Event. No Sooner Than The Flame Of The Xxi Olympiad Extinguished Keith Retired From Competition. In 1983 The Keith Carter Award Was Established To Honour Outstanding Achievement By A Manitoba Male Gymnast. "Red" Dutton Was Born In Russell, Mb., On July 23, 1898, But Most Of His Early Hockey Was In Calgary. He Was In World War I Where His Legs Were Badly Injured. He Returned In 1919 And Turned Professional With Calgary In 1921. He Played With Calgary Against The Canadiens In The Stanley Cup Round In 1924. He Was Signed Two Years Later To A Montreal Maroon Contract And Stayed With Them Until 1930. Then He Went To The New York Americans. In 1936 He Took Over The Management And Coaching And Retired From Hockey When The Americans Ceased To Operate In 1942. In 1943, Dutton Was Acting President Of The Nhl, And In 1943 The President.
